Thodupuzha is a town in Idukki district in the Indian state
The prosperous plantations and
cornfields in Thodupuzha reveals the hard working nature of Thodupuzhites. They
converted the hilly regions and forest in to beautiful and prosperous
plantations and fields with abundant of crops. This hard working nature caused
for their social and cultural attainments.
The main crops are Coconut, Arecanut,
Nutmeg, Ginger, Turmeric, Bananas, Coco, Tapioca, Pine-apple, Paddy and Pepper.
Most of the agriculturalists are rubber planters because the vegetation and
climate in this area are best suit for Rubber plantations. Coconut, Teak
and mangium trees are found all over in all homesteads.
Agricutural activities are promoted by government and
various organizations such as Gandhiji Study Center. Government and banks offers
financial support to the farmers. The ‘Krishi Bhavan’ provides the seeds and
guidelines for farming. Now the irrigation facilities became better than the
earliest.
The farmers got opportunity for presenting their attainments in
farming through Karshika mela, which is one of the gratest carnival of
Thodupuzha and occur once in a year.
